The ELCA has a long history of being present in communities, working to help and serve where the needs are greatest.
We are a church that does God’s work in the world and in local communities pursuing justice, peace and human dignity for and with all people. At Mount Lebanon Lutheran, we strive to follow these same principles.
Our charitable fund, “Daily Bread Outreach,” receives donations from congregation members. This fund is designed to be used for helping the needy and addressing poverty in our region.
Martin Luther viewed “daily bread” as not merely food, but rather representing all basic necessities in life. These include food, clothing, shelter, just leaders, favorable weather, good friends, and trustworthy neighbors. Our Daily Bread Outreach reflects this focus on all necessities in life.
Throughout the year our congregation prepares and serves meals for the homeless community at Daily Bread ministries located in Pittsburgh’s Northside
We prepare gifts and cards for the homebound members of our congregation. Members visit the shut-ins and deliver the gifts.
Members and friends of Mount Lebanon Lutheran continuously donate food that is collected in our Narthex. Volunteers then bring it to St. Michael’s and All Angels Lutheran Church in Spring Garden on Pittsburgh’s Northside and to the Dormont Community Food Pantry.
Sunday School youth periodically create gifts that are given to the clients and volunteers of Castle Shannon Meals on Wheels.
Twice monthly church members donate their time at Global Links in Green Tree, PA to sort and package donated medical supplies. These donated items are then distributed to areas in need in Central/South America.
As needs arise we initiate additional social ministry projects throughout the year. We endeavor to address critical needs in the community, the region, and the world.
is the ELCA’s annual dedicated day of service that began in 2013. Mount Lebanon Lutheran actively participates in this program as part of our Rally Day Sunday in September. The entire congregation is encouraged to prepare 150+ Food Care bags to distribute to the homeless guests at the meals at Daily Bread Ministries
The youth of the congregation collect monetary donations on Super Bowl Sunday in February to address hunger in the region. All donations are given to St. Michael’s food pantry.
